BACKGROUND At the inaugural Legacy event held in March, 2007 it was revealed that due to a series of budget cuts, the Villanova Singers dramatically reduced domestic touring. Since touring has always been viewed as the most cherished of rituals, generating camaraderie, memories and stories of the road, the alumni were shocked and disappointed the tradition had fallen away. Those in attendance resolved to find a way to get the Singers back on the road again. At Legacy 2008, a year later, a solution was introduced: The Villanova Singers Endowment Fund (VSEF). The VSEF has been established in coordination with Villanova University, the Board of Trustees, and President Father Peter Donahue in order to provide a vehicle for Singers alumni to make donations specifically directed towards the Singers for touring. 100% of the donations will go directly into the VSEF. HOW THE ENDOWMENT WORKS
The principal amount accumulated in the VSEF will never be touched. The interest earned from the VSEF will be used to provide the Singers with annual distributions for touring - in perpetuity. This amount has been set at 5% per annum of the principal amount. The initial goal is to raise $200,000 for the VSEF to enable a $10,000 distribution, enough to get the Singers on tour for at least one weekend per season. Thus, the VSEF ensures the Singers will tour again, as long as the organization exists. The VSEF is governed by strict bylaws which prevent the University from re-allocating funds away from the Singers annual operating budget towards other programs. The usage of funds will be overseen by the VSEF Board of Trustees, who will recommend the annual distribution to the Singers for touring. THE GOAL At Legacy2008 it was announced that the initial goal of the VSEF was to raise $200,000. By 2010 the goal would be raised to $600,000, providing enough principal to enable the Singers to partake in at least three annual weekend tours per season, in perpetuity. At the Legacy 2008 Saturday evening ensemble concert, President Father Peter Donahue announced that there had been an anonymous donation from a Singers alumnus of $100,000, thus starting the evening halfway to the $200,000 goal. Many other generous donations followed that evening in the spirit of brotherhood in song. HOW YOU CAN HELP: DONATE! If you would like to make a donation to the VSEF, you have three options: 1.
